Start with Trezor

Complete setup guide for your Trezor hardware wallet. Follow these steps to secure your cryptocurrencies properly.

Setup Your Trezor Device

1

Download Trezor Suite

Trezor Suite is the official desktop and web application for managing your Trezor device. It provides a secure interface for all your cryptocurrency operations.

Download Trezor Suite

Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Choose your operating system:

After downloading, install Trezor Suite on your computer. The installation process is straightforward and will guide you through the necessary steps.

2

Connect Your Trezor Device

Connect your Trezor hardware wallet to your computer using the provided USB cable. For Trezor Model T, you might need a USB-C to USB-A adapter.

When you connect your device for the first time:

  • Ensure you're using the original USB cable
  • Connect directly to your computer, not through a hub
  • Make sure your device has sufficient battery (for Trezor Model T)
  • Keep your device physically secure during setup

Trezor Suite will automatically detect your device and guide you through the initialization process.

3

Install Firmware

Your Trezor device requires firmware to operate securely. Trezor Suite will check if your device has the latest firmware and guide you through the installation process.

Important notes about firmware:

  • Firmware installation is mandatory for first-time setup
  • The process takes a few minutes
  • Do not disconnect your device during firmware installation
  • Firmware updates include security improvements and new features

After firmware installation, your device will restart and be ready for configuration.

4

Create Your Wallet

Now you'll create your cryptocurrency wallet. You have two options:

Create New Wallet: Recommended for most users. Your device will generate a new random seed.

Recover Wallet: Use this if you're restoring from a backup.

For creating a new wallet:

  • Your device will generate a 12, 18, or 24-word recovery seed
  • This seed is the master key to all your cryptocurrencies
  • Write it down exactly as shown on the device screen
  • Store it in a secure, offline location
5

Backup Your Recovery Seed

This is the most critical step for securing your cryptocurrencies. Your recovery seed is the only way to restore your wallet if your device is lost, stolen, or damaged.

Follow these security practices:

  • Write down all words in the exact order shown
  • Use the provided recovery card or a dedicated metal backup
  • Never store your seed digitally (no photos, cloud storage, or text files)
  • Store multiple copies in different secure locations
  • Never share your seed with anyone - Trezor will never ask for it

After writing down your seed, you'll be asked to confirm it by selecting the words in the correct order.

6

Set a PIN

Protect your device with a PIN code. The PIN prevents unauthorized physical access to your device.

PIN features:

  • Choose a PIN with at least 4 digits
  • The keypad layout randomizes each time for security
  • After 16 incorrect attempts, the device wipes itself
  • You can change your PIN later in Trezor Suite

Remember your PIN - you'll need it every time you connect your device.

7

Start Using Your Trezor

Your Trezor device is now ready to use! You can:

  • Receive cryptocurrencies by generating addresses
  • Send cryptocurrencies to others
  • Manage multiple accounts for different coins
  • Use Exchange features to trade assets
  • Explore third-party integrations and DeFi applications

All transactions must be physically confirmed on your Trezor device by pressing the buttons. This ensures that even if your computer is compromised, your funds remain secure.
